My dream to adopt a retired racing Greyhound started years ago in Maine where I first met and fell in love with the breed.  I put my dream away when we moved to North Carolina and I went to work.
My college-aged daughter, Laura, called me from the outlet mall on Airport Blvd. one Saturday morning to tell me, "The Greyhounds are here!"
I was very excited. I would go see them when I could. I was still working.
One evening we went out to dinner with some friends. In our conversation, Three Dog Bakery came up. I had never heard of it and I was very interested in what this was all about. I went to their website and liked what I saw.
My husband and I visited a couple Three Dog Bakeries. One thing I learned was that the bakery owners brought their dogs to work. I liked the sound of that.
As we started moving forward with our plans to open our own Three Dog Bakery my dream to adopt a Greyhound was brought to a reality. I spent a lot of time on Project Racing Home's website. I looked at both males and females of the breed.
A book that was recommended to me, I also recommend to anyone who is serious about adopting a retired racer. Adopting the Racing Greyhound by Cynthia A. Branigan. She covers everything. One of the things she mentions is the color...if I am thinking about the color of the Greyhound I want maybe I shouldn't be getting a Greyhound. I had been doing that, so I quickly put those thoughts out of my mind.
When we went to meet the Greyhounds that were picked out for us, all of them were brindles. To be honest, I was not thinking about this color choice.  If I had gotten all caught up in the color, I would have missed out on a wonderful dog.  His name is Okie.  I have grown to love his brindle markings. When people come into the bakery, they are surprized to see a brindle Greyhound.
He is perfect for his position as greeter. He likes children and gets along well with other dogs of every size. When I am at the bakery, he is with me. He gets very excited to come to the bakery and at the end of the day he is excited to go home.

Dogs have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.
We currently have 3 dogs: Jaana, an 18 month old German Shepherd; and 2 Shelties: Rocko age 13, and Bailey age 11.
We have a 5 year old cat named Atticus and 2 warm blood horses as well.
After coming home from working at Three Dog Bakery, our dogs stand in line to smell my clothes for all the wonderful scents and aroma’s from the bakery on that particular day. A few of their favorite baked goods are the Carrot Cake and Ruffles. Of course, their dinner time meal is made special with a topping of one of Three Dog Bakery’s Entrées.
My favorite benefit to working at Three Dog is getting to meet the dogs and their owners. It warms my heart to see so many people treat their pets with such love and compassion. In my opinion, the world can’t have enough dog lovers.

I love dogs, so I have a pack of four: Rugby, a 16 year old dachshund mix; Luca, a 2 year old Jack Russell Shortie; Kendall Bob, a 2 year old Shar Pei/Shiba Inu mix; and Paisley, a 1 year old "Heinz 57".  They are like children to me, and I often bring one along to work at Three Dog.  They haven't met a treat from Three Dog that they didn't like, but their favorite is probably the Boxer Brownies!

Foxy is a 3 year old Feist rescued from the Wake County shelter when she was just 6 months old. She instantly became my little baby and my parents have finally resigned themselves to being called Grandma and Grandpa.
There is nothing better than being able to work around dogs all day so Three Dog Bakery is definitely a great place to be.
Foxy loves it, too, since she figured out when I come home from work she always gets some yummy treats!!
